These ribbons use a more traditional ribbon leader/reversing signal design that is proven to work on legacy models and is suitable for text, barcode, and OCR applications.
LEGACY COMPATIBILITY The challenge created by this new and improved ribbon construction is that it may not function properly on some of the oldest Printronix printer models; specifically, printer models: P300, P600, L150, MVP, P3000, P6000, P6040, P6080, P9005, P9008, P9012The ribbon reversing circuitry in these models may not be sensitive enough to reliably reverse the new ribbons as they reach the end. To insure a reliable solution is available for these older printers, we have created Part Number, 250269-005, described as ourLegacy Printer, 30M Character Ribbon. These ribbons will use a more traditional ribbon leader /reversing signal design that is proven to work on all of the models listed above and is suitable for text, barcode, and OCR applications. CAN ANY OF THE MODELS LISTED ABOVE EVER USE THE IMPROVED NEW STYLE RIBBON? Yes. In reality, the vast majority of these older models will work with the new and improved ribbons. However, each printer varies slightly in terms of its sensitivity to the ribbon reversal signal and some of the least sensitive will fall below the requirements of the new ribbons. RIBBONS FOR P5000, P4280, P9212 These products all have later generation ribbon reversing detection circuitry that will work properly with the newer designed ribbons. Users of these products need to simply keep ordering their existing ribbon part numbers.
